We are looking to hire a Senior Treaty Underwriter to join our team in Singapore, reporting to the Head of Department for Rest of Asia within P&C Underwriting in Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong. As a senior treaty underwriter, you will join a powerful team of treaty underwriters and boost the underwriting resources that we dedicate to nine territories of our P&C portfolio in Asia-Pacific: Greater China, Korea, South East Asia, India.
The role
Your main responsibility is to achieve results-oriented underwriting by building-up, developing and monitoring a technically sound and profitable portfolio, this includes pricing in coordination with Pricing Actuaries and ensuring that all underwriting actions and decisions are properly documented:
- Acquire and maintain new profitable business in the allocated markets
- Maintain and develop client and broker relationships within your markets, consult and provide solutions for them as well as assist in organizing workshops
- Interact effectively with other Business Units and departments such as, Accounting, Claims, Wording/Legal & Compliance, as well as the CAT Modeling team to ensure timely CAT pricing
- Handle administrative tasks, such as reviewing contractual documents and endorsement requests, data input, maintain data quality of portfolio, etc.
- Provide market information to our internal peers
- Coach junior team members from time to time
Your profile
You bring around 6 – 8 years of experience of reinsurance experience, during which you have demonstrated your drive to develop profitable and sustainable treaty business. Furthermore, you have prior experience with one or several of the flagship P&C markets which are Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, India and Korea.
Your business acumen and market savviness, paired with strong relationship skills, have earned you respect and followership within the treaty reinsurance market, and you combine strong analytical skills and attention to details, together with an ability to think strategically and to contextualize the wider strategic and tactical stakes of your business partners and of your company. Ideally, your profile is surrounded by the following skills and knowledge:
- Fast learner and an outstanding team player which will allow you to quickly integrate a team of well-recognized senior treaty underwriters and, together with them, deploy your business development skills to bring these portfolios to their next level.
- You have a natural ability to prioritize; you can make quick and efficient decisions and keep sound judgment while under pressure, balancing risk / reward and marginal cost / benefit. You take responsibility for your actions and ownership of the outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical issues in an effective way
- Self-motivated, holds oneself accountable and takes ownership for problem resolution, able to prioritize under pressure of competing deadlines
