Role Summary:
The Reserving Actuary will be a key member of the Non-Life Reserving Operations team, supporting the delivery, enhancement, and automation of reserving processes across the global Non-Life business.
The role combines traditional actuarial reserving responsibilities with a strong focus on operational excellence, data processes, platform management, and process automation. The successful candidate will contribute to reserving analyses, quarter-close activities, data validation, and the ongoing development of tools and workflows that support actuarial reserving.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of actuarial science, data, and technology, helping to modernise reserving processes and improve efficiency through automation and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Reserving Process Support
- Support the execution of the quarterly reserving cycle and Deep Dive activities.
- Assist with reserving analyses, data preparation, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Support the production and validation of key reserving outputs, including IBNR, ULAE, and DCBE related information.
- Investigate and resolve reserving data and reporting issues in collaboration with stakeholders.
Automation and Tool Development
- Develop and maintain automation solutions to improve reserving processes and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to the enhancement of the Non-Life Reserving Platform and associated analytical tools.
- Support testing, implementation, and release of new functionality.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for processes, scripts, and controls.
Data Management and Controls
- Perform data validation and quality assurance activities.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of operational controls.
- Assist in identifying, investigating, and resolving data quality issues.
- Ensure reserving outputs are accurate, traceable, and well documented.
Analytics and Programming
- Use Python to develop, maintain, and improve reserving tools, analyses, and reporting processes.
- Contribute to data transformation, automation, and analytical workflows.
- Support integration between actuarial systems, databases, and reporting tools.
- Assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies that improve workflow efficiency.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Reserving, Finance, Technology, Data, and Operations teams.
- Support business users in understanding reserving data and processes
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
Essential
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Experience working with large datasets.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Desirable
- ResQ & SQL knowledge.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience with version control tools (e.g. Git).
- Knowledge of Power BI or similar reporting solutions.
- Experience with additional programming languages such as R, VBA, C#, or Java.

Work Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in actuarial reserving, actuarial analysis, insurance analytics, or a related quantitative role.
- Exposure to actuarial modelling, reserving techniques, or financial reporting processes.
- Experience working with data, reporting, or analytical environments.
- Experience with process improvement, automation, or technical development is highly desirable.
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline.
- Qualified Actuary or actively pursuing actuarial qualification through a recognised actuarial body.
